Longspee Academy provides a personalised education tailored to meet the needs of its pupils aged 5-12 years in Key Stages 1-3. Pupils have a statement of special educational needs for behavioural, emotional and mental health difficulties. In addition, many pupils may also have other needs alongside this.
Longspee Academy prides itself on offering a supportive yet challenging environment in which young people feel secure enough to risk leaving behind their old behaviours to embrace a new and more positive future.
Longspee Academy’s highly trained staff have high expectations of all pupils. There is a high staff to pupil ratio with an emphasis on developing emotional well-being and social skills. This enables pupils to form good working relationships with staff and other pupils. Personalised learning programmes enable pupils to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. Specialist teaching and pastoral staff support pupils with a wide range of intervention strategies to help improve their behaviour.
The curriculum has a focus on the development of key literacy and numeracy skills, reading and phonics, improved levels of attention and concentration, social skill development, emotional health and well-being and self-regulation in regards to behaviours which cause concern.
